Stroke Symptoms and Warning Signs

At our screenings, we speak with community members about the mechanisms and common warning signs of stroke. It is critical for at-risk individuals and their family members to understand the signs and symptoms of stroke in order to get to the hospital as soon as possible.

FAST

F: Face

Ask the person to smile to see if one side of the face is drooping or numb.

A: Arms

Look for arm weakness. Ask the person to raise both arms. Observe to see if one arm is drooping.

S: Speech

Observe if speech is slurred or hard to understand. Ask the person to repeat a sentence back to you.

T: Time

Call 911 immediately if the person shows any symptoms of stroke.
